About Cassidy
I love questions. As a teacher and mother of 3, I am asked hundreds of them daily. One of the main things I ask my kids is, "Can you answer this yourself?". More often than not, we have the information we need to answer our own questions. I want to work with you to build the confidence and independence it takes to pursue your own answers. Whether it be a comprehension question, or a question about life- the ability to seek out answers is a crucial skill I feel we all need.

My sessions would benefit mostly elementary students needing support in reading. I firmly believe students learn best when provided clear examples of tools and techniques that allow them to better comprehend texts. I use a lot of metacognitive teaching methods. Some examples include thinking aloud- which models thought processes, learning journals- keeping notes on important information to circle back to, and error analysis- an opportunity for us to learn from our mistakes through self-correction. I truly love reading. My favorite activity to do with my class is a novel study. With my lower-level small group, I am able to pick apart texts in a way that makes it less intense. Once a student recognizes the skills it takes to comprehend what they are reading, the process becomes not only more fluent- but enjoyable as well.
