About Weike
Hi, I’m Vanessa! I’m a certified Chinese teacher from Shanghai, and I specialize in helping adult beginners start speaking Chinese with confidence.
Starting Chinese can feel intimidating — especially when you are learning Pinyin, tones, sentence structure, and pronunciation all at once. My goal is to make those first steps simple, practical, and enjoyable.
I have over 400 hours of 1-on-1 Chinese teaching experience, working with learners from different backgrounds and learning goals. With my background in English, translation, and international management consulting, I can also explain Chinese grammar, pronunciation, and cultural differences clearly in English when needed.
What my lessons are like
I use a structured, step-by-step approach that helps you turn what you learn into real communication:

Use real-life topics and practical expressions
Learn with plenty of audio and visual input

For complete beginners, we can start from the very beginning — including Pinyin, tones, basic sentence patterns, and everyday Chinese. Instead of simply memorizing vocabulary, you’ll gradually learn how to use what you know in real conversations.
My lessons are patient, relaxed, organized, and practical. I want you to feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and speaking more and more as your confidence grows.
I also enjoy traveling, discovering local cultures, and practicing yoga, so I love bringing real-life Chinese and cultural context into my lessons.
