About Tobias

I am a Cambridge-qualified English language teacher (CELTA), with over five years' experience. I have a BA in Fine Art, an MA in Philosophy (from Bristol University) and a Diploma in Professional Acting (from the Oxford School of Drama). I like to play chess and Scrabble in my spare time.

About the lesson

Whether you are learning English as a second language or a native speaker wishing to develop your academic skills, my one-hour lessons are tailored to help you achieve your English goals. I am a Cambridge-qualified English language teacher (CELTA), with over five years' experience. In this time I've helped countless students prepare for their IELTS and Cambridge B2 First exams, as well as teaching specific courses on a wide range of topics – from advanced grammar, to poetry and Shakespeare, to Business English.

My academic background – a BA in Fine Art and an MA in Philosophy (from Bristol University) – makes me well suited to tutoring native speakers who wish to develop their essay writing, critical thinking and rhetorical skills (for example, those sitting their A-Levels or Cambridge Pre U exams).

Last year I graduated from The Oxford School of Drama and have since been working as a professional actor (I've recently returned from a Shakespeare tour of Europe and Latin America, playing Oberon/ Theseus in A Midsummer Night's Dream). Since 'expressing yourself better' is the goal of every student, in one way or another – be that an EFL learner or a native budding academic – I feel that my actor training has greatly broadened my English-teaching toolkit.
