Science is messy. I believe that learning can be that way too. My approach is to always look at the big picture - the entire concept & the entire student. My goal is to meet the student where they are in terms of understanding and comprehending and work with them to find ways to fill in the gaps in meaningful and personal ways.
My investigations start with figuring out where we are in terms of understanding: what makes sense & what doesn't. My goal is to pinpoint then where the misunderstanding or the miseducation occurred. Once we identify that, we begin our journey of scaffolding our newfound information with things that we already know in order to make lasting connections.
My role is a facilitator. I am a guide in understanding and growth. My goal is to help individuals learn how they learn. To develop a set of skills that will serve them in whatever content area and capacity they may need in the future because, if we really think about it: we will always need to learn something new. Modes of understanding may vary - modeling, note-taking, drawing, memorizing - but the desired result remains the same: providing the appropriate and effective tools so that learners are able to do it themselves.

Perfect! I love Jocelyn, I have never had a tutor before in my life and she has set the standard to tutors. She has a great way of not making me feel stupid when I ask questions or voice my concerns. And has helped me boost my confidence in the subject. I love that she gives me plenty of new ways to approach the material as well as how to study in itself. She never fails to reassure me that I am doing a great job and to not give up. I wish she was the actual instructor to the class I’m taking because she is seriously so great.
- Sheroya is a delight to work with. She is very aware of her needs and is very open to new perspectives and approaches. She is easy to speak to and guide through her learning process. She communicates promptly and always sends information ahead of time if she needs to address something specific. I enjoy helping Sheroya achieve her academic goals.Jocelyn's response :
