About Chelsea
In high school, I transitioned from an imagined love of chemistry to a real love for history and current events. I was motivated by my first real understanding of political elections in 2016 and wanted to take action to uplift marginalized voices and fight for what is right. I started the Girls Learn International club my junior year. Highlights from the club included weekly meetings where we discussed the issues girls face globally. We also fundraised to attend the National Feminist Leadership Conference in Washington DC. Additionally, my senior year, I was awarded a scholarship from the national chapter to attend the United Nations 62nd Commission on the Status of Women.
Another impactful experience during my high school career was attending the 2 week summer leadership program in Vermont called: GIV - Currents Events and Social Justice. This program is where I decided I want to major in international affairs in undergraduate studies.
During college, I took up a myriad of leadership opportunities from planning the Women's Leadership Conference to receiving a prestigious scholarship awarded to 18 students at our college oof over 40,000. The scholarship was given out to students to create and complete a summer learning and leadership experience. I used the money to go to Costa Rica for 2 month to learn Spanish, take classes on global injustice, and intern with a women's refugee non-profit. In Costa Rica, I practiced videography and storytelling to uplift the voices of refugee women and the barriers they face.
I am going back to school this fall to pursue my master's in journalism in Columbia University's documentary specialization. I will combine my love for activism, history, and politics with storytelling and videography.
Because I did well in school, I was able to pursue really unique and skills-building endeavors. I want to help you do the same!

My lessons are customizable to each students needs. I first examine the syllabus from the students classes, then pull notes, exams, and exercises from my own collegiate classes in history, political science, and international relations. We will curate a semester long schedule that will help them deepen their knowledge throughout the year and pass their final exams.
I operate my classrooms in a "think-pair-share" formation. In one-on-one tutoring, this looks likes lecturing, activity, and then have students teach me what they have learned so I can see what stuck and what needs more reinforcement.
I believe that history is best learned in conversation and critical examination of articles, videos, and books. I also value student feedback on what they feel works so that they can feel excited to learn - not forced.
