About Karen
You likely want to move beyond basic strumming patterns to reach a new standard of playing. After 13 years of helping 340 students, I find that teaching guitar is a conversation between eras. My work with teens and adults emphasizes chord transitions and barre chords as foundational blocks. Electric technique requires a different touch than the classical fiddle, yet the focus on listening remains central.

Quiet practice sessions are not always the best way to develop lead guitar skills. True progress happens when we play loud and lean into the mistakes. My lessons feel like a jam session where 13 years of performance experience meets your specific needs.
Because I hold a BM Music Performance degree, I approach every chord with structural precision. You might find my emphasis on rhythm to be unconventional for modern teaching. I prioritize the songs that shaped the protest tradition. We will focus on making music that feels alive and honest.
My approach is to keep things simple and rhythmic. You should expect to leave every session with a clear focus.
