About Hans

I am currently a postgraduate student in Mathematics at the University of Cambridge (the degree is called Part III of the Mathematical Tripos). Before Cambridge, I studied Theoretical Physics at UCL, where I ranked in the top three of my cohort every year and graduated 2nd overall out of 232 students.

At A-level, I achieved 4 A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. I also received several awards in mathematics and physics competitions, including Top Gold in the 2021 British Physics Olympiad (BPHO), ranking among the top five students in the China region.

I have extensive tutoring experience and strong familiarity with exams problems. I have four years of experience teaching high-school level mathematics and physics (A Levels/IB/AP), academic competitions (BPHO/BMO/AMO), and Oxbridge admissions tests (MAT/PAT/STEP). I have also worked part-time marking STEP scripts.

My students have achieved excellent outcomes, including three BPhO Top Gold awards and three STEP Grade 1 or S results. None of my A-level students have achieved below an A in Mathematics or Physics. I also have two years of experience tutoring undergraduate students, helping several students who were initially failing their courses improve to final exam marks of 60 or even 70+.

My lessons are designed for three main groups of students.

First, I teach undergraduate students in mathematics and physics, especially those preparing for final exams. I provide high-quality personal tutorials that are much more tailored than a standard university lecture or office hour. My aim is to help you understand the full logical structure of the course, and to train you in the types of questions most likely to appear in exams and the techniques needed to answer them efficiently. I teach undergraduate and postgraduate-level physics, as well as undergraduate mathematics, including linear algebra, calculus, mathematical methods, quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, statistical mechanics, general relativity, and related topics. I have two years of experience tutoring university students.

Second, I teach GCSE, A-level, IB, and AP students in mathematics and physics. I have four years of experience teaching school-level mathematics and physics. I focus on helping students classify different types of exam questions, understand the required methods, and develop clear, reliable exam techniques.

Third, I work with ambitious students preparing for Oxbridge admissions and academic competitions. I offer focused training for STEP, MAT, PAT, and similar admissions tests, as well as BPhO preparation.

A typical lesson lasts 2–3 hours and is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on building a clear understanding of the relevant concepts and theory. The second part focuses on targeted exam-style problem solving for the specific qualification, course, or admissions test. My goal is to help students understand the subject properly while also becoming confident and efficient in exams.
