About Arthur
I am a disciplined student, passionate about the subject of history, with deep content knowledge from achieving 90% at A-level and studying at Cambridge.
Outside of my academic work, I am a high-level athlete in rowing (crew). At Cambridge I have participated in this through being a part of the annual Oxford/Cambridge Boat Race. Prior to starting university, I represented the GB national team and won several national championships. Through sport I have learnt much about discipline and personal development, and my athletic achievements have closely supported my academic outlook.
Outside of academics and sport, I am an avid reader of Stoic philosophy, love walking and cycling, and play some video games too!
I am passionate about tutoring students due to how lucky I feel to have received such high-quality support from attending one of the country's top-performing schools (St Paul's in London) and am eager to share this knowledge with people. I would not be in the place I am in today without the help of tutors and teachers, and I want to support students in the way I have been supported in the past.

My approach to tutoring is personal, supportive, and focused on helping each student reach their full potential. Every student learns differently, so I tailor sessions to the individual rather than relying on a fixed method. I take the time to understand how each student thinks, where they are finding difficulties, and what will help them improve most effectively.
History, specifically, is a subject where the potential content is unlimited, so my focus is on supporting with exam technique, essay structure, and argument development -- by far the most important things that separate students between those who get C's and D's and those that get A*s.
I believe that strong academic results come not only from knowledge of the subject but also from confidence, structure, and clear guidance. My aim is therefore to act as both a tutor and a coach throughout the A-level process. I help students break down complex topics, develop clear and persuasive essay writing, and build the exam techniques that are essential for achieving top grades.
Equally important to me is creating a positive and encouraging learning environment. I approach tutoring with patience and kindness, ensuring students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenges. Progress often comes from building confidence step by step, and I support students through that journey.
Rather than focusing only on short-term exam preparation, I work with students over time to develop the skills and habits that lead to consistent improvement. This includes helping them plan revision effectively, manage their workload, and approach exams with clarity and confidence. Through my own experience of balancing international sports (30 hours of training per week) with top-class academics I know that time management and forward planning is essential to academic success.
Ultimately, my goal is to guide students through the entire A-level process, supporting them academically and helping them develop the independence and confidence needed to succeed.
