About Rachel
I hold a BA in History from the University of Cambridge and am currently completing an MA in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies at the University of York, where I am also preparing for PhD applications. I’ve worked on eight issues of academic journals in various editorial roles, which has given me deep experience in academic writing, research, and mentoring. I’ve tutored students in GCSE and A-Level History, as well as supported university applicants with personal statements and Oxbridge preparation. Through my editorial work, I’ve also helped undergraduate students refine their academic writing and build strong research skills. My approach is supportive, structured, and tailored to each student’s goals — whether that’s excelling in exams, improving essays, or gaining confidence in historical analysis.

My tutoring is centred on building confidence, clarity, and curiosity. I believe students learn best when they feel empowered to ask questions, explore ideas, and connect what they’re learning to the bigger picture. Every session is tailored to the student’s goals — whether that’s mastering exam technique, developing essay structure, or exploring complex historical debates. I use a combination of guided discussion, close reading, and targeted feedback to help students develop critical thinking, articulate arguments clearly, and improve their academic writing. Lessons often include short activities, collaborative analysis, and strategies students can use independently. Lessons typically last 60 minutes, though I’m flexible depending on the student’s needs and focus. I've tutored GCSE students in Religious Studies and History throughout my undergraduate degree, and mentored various A-Level history applications to Oxbridge in recent years. These lessons are ideal for: GCSE and A-Level students looking to boost their grades in History or English University students studying History, English Literature, or related fields
