About Kirsten
I personally enjoyed the Natsci admissions process very much, and learnt a lot through the different stages, so am very excited to be a part of this process for younger students and make it just as enjoyable. I very much love helping students and used to teach lots as a volunteer at a refugee school when I had a bit more time. And really it's a bit of a refresher for me too, to keep revisiting old topics and stay in touch with my subject.

Hi, I'm Kirsten! I recently graduated from the University of Cambridge in Natural Sciences, where I studied modules in Chemistry and Materials Science and specialised in Biochemistry in my final year. I have 3 years' experience teaching GCSE/A-Levels one-on-one and providing tailored personal statement mentoring sessions through outreach programmes. I'm very meticulous in terms of providing feedback for personal statements, and respond very quickly outside of lessons so will def be reachable when you're rushing for those deadlines! Having attained the highest scores across 8 GCSEs nationally, and 4 A* at A-levels, I definitely recognise the importance of exam technique and am happy to compile sets of NSAA questions tailored to specific areas you want to work on (or can just run through the 'tricks' of each question quickly if we're tight on time). Alternatively, with more concept-focused lessons, I'd say I have a pretty interactive style of teaching where I ask you lots of questions to clarify your understanding, and draw lots of diagrams to explain your thoughts- which will be helpful for interview preparation since it pretty much mimics a supervision, where you have an in-depth discussion about a topic. I'm pretty organised as a tutor as I have lots of experience teaching at refugee schools where I had to draw up syllabuses from scratch for new subjects being taught, am easy to talk to, and can easily accommodate whatever areas you'd like to cover/lesson style you'd like!

I've been taking A level biology lessons with Kirsten for a while now- she's very prepared for lessons and tailors them to what I need help with that particular week. Lessons usually feel more like a conversation, and she asks lots of questions to stretch my thinking beyond what I already know. It's also personally been very helpful doing exam practice together, as I struggle more with exam techniques than memorising content.
I started having lessons in chemistry to help me with my GCSEs around 6 weeks ago. Since then, I have already seen an improvement in my last chemistry test and feel that I have a much better understanding. Kirsten is able to explain to me why the rules that I am taught in school actually work, and where they come from. I have much better fundamental understanding of chemistry and therefore, with better foundations, it is easier to learn new content. I would strongly recommend Kirsten for other chemistry students who are struggling to understand and remember all the rules that we are taught in school
Kirsten has been tutoring me for 2 months and I have already seen improvement in my chemistry tests in school. She explains things carefully and takes time to ensure I have a complete understanding of why the rules that I am taught to use actually work. I have a much more complete understanding of GCSE chemistry thanks to Kirsten and this has helped me to learn new content more easily with better foundations in place. I look forward to continuing to study with her.
I have been working with Kirsten for a few months and I couldn't have asked for a better tutor!
She is easy to talk to and is genuinely interested in resolving any issue I've had, be it big or small.
The Sciences had never been a strong suit of mine, but Kirsten has been extremely supportive by both delivering the subject content in a digestible way, but also with exam technique and study tips, which has helped me help myself!
I can tell I've improved the effectiveness of studying outside of lessons, but more importantly I feel more confident and interested in my A level subjects at school.
Through Kirsten's holistic approach to teaching, I've realised that excelling in learning is a multifactorial endeavour and have therefore taken steps to tackle it accordingly.
I look forward to continuing working with her.View more recommendations
