About Grace
As a lover of English and literature, I have come to an enriched understanding of the language and subject through my education and personal interest. My background includes an Associate’s degree as well as a Bachelor’s degree in English, earned at Antelope Valley College and California State University Northridge, respectively. I worked as a student tutor for 2 years at Antelope Valley College, working with many students who were not English majors but wanted to gain confidence in their writing skills for application in their courses. I also have an Associate’s degree in Interpreting Training and learned intermediate American Sign Language at AVC which strengthened my interest in linguistics and grammar. I am highly personable and invested in each student’s success, and I will do my absolute best to ensure that success in each of our sessions.

Many students are adept learners with lots of ideas, but struggle to pen them or format within the assigned guidelines. For these students, we’ll start with a brief consultation about their assignment and what they would like to focus on improving during our session. I will then do a brief reading of their current work and make small annotations to share with them of potential oversights. Showing students how to brainstorm and expand their words into more complex sentence structures and paragraph development is next. Following this, I will walk them through different skills and strategies that they can apply to their work for success.
Other students have an easier time penning their ideas, but a more difficult time expanding them or formatting them within standard academic formats such as MLA. In this case, we will begin the session with the same brief consultation and reading of the work in progress before I share formatting standards that can help guide their writing progress.
All of my students leave the session more confident than they entered, guaranteed!
