About Kate
Hi everyone! My name is Kate. I am 19 years old and have worked in an elementary school reading tutor program for the last year! During this time I was trained on how to meet the needs of students in an engaging and fun way! I have learned much about working one on one with children and providing an individualized experience to best meet the needs of each child! Have previously tutored elementary level students in these topics and am able to create individualized coursework to help your child succeed from home. In a typical lesson plan for an hour session to improve reading comprehension I include:
A start up, check in to gauge how the child is feeling that day;
A warm up activity (ex: an interactive game to review phonics and understanding of short sentences);
An activity focusing on our skill of the day (ex: We could read a short story focusing finding power words. As we read the story multiple times we can look deeper into the novel to fully understand what it is saying;
A closing activity (ex: a fun closing game to help us review our phonics from the beginning of the session).
