About Jasmine
Finding a tutor who understands the "how" of math is easy; finding one who understands the "why" of a student’s struggle is where true progress begins. With a Master’s Degree in Special Education and over seven years of instructional experience, I provide a sophisticated, highly personalized approach to 5th-grade math mastery.
The Intersection of Expertise and Empathy
My professional journey began in 2017, working in early childhood settings and private tutoring to build a deep understanding of how young brains develop number sense. For the past four years, I have served within the school system as a licensed 5th-grade teacher, specializing in the critical transition from basic arithmetic to complex algebraic thinking.
What Sets My Instruction Apart
Because I hold a Master’s in Special Education, I am uniquely qualified to support students who find traditional classroom methods frustrating. My "Secret Sauce" includes:
Diagnostic Precision: I don't just treat the symptom (a wrong answer); I find the foundational gap—often dating back to 2nd or 3rd grade—and repair it.
Executive Functioning Support: I help students organize their mathematical thinking, manage multi-step word problems, and reduce "cognitive overload."
The Early Childhood Foundation: My EC certification ensures that I lead with patience and use concrete, visual models before moving to abstract formulas.
Tailored Differentiation: Whether your child has an IEP, 504 plan, or simply learns differently, I adapt my curriculum to meet them exactly where they are.
Professional Standards and Commitment
As a current classroom teacher with nearly a decade of experience in daycares and private tutoring, I offer a level of professionalism that parents can rely on. Every session is prepared with the same rigor as a formal school lesson, ensuring your child receives data-driven instruction that aligns perfectly with state standards and classroom expectations.
Professional Credentials At-A-Glance
M.Ed. in Special Education: Expert in differentiated instruction and diverse learning needs.
Licensed 5th Grade Teacher: 4 years of current school system experience.
Early Childhood Certified: Specialist in foundational development since 2017.
Professional Private Tutor: Active and results-driven since 2017.

I utilize a Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) approach. Because of my Early Childhood certification, I know that even 5th graders benefit from "seeing" the math before solving it.
Concrete: We start with virtual manipulatives or real-world examples to touch and move the numbers.
Representational: We move to drawing models, such as tape diagrams or area models, to visualize the problem.
Abstract: Finally, we apply the standard algorithms and formulas once the conceptual "lightbulb" has turned on.
A Typical Lesson Plan
Each 60-minute session is designed to build confidence and mastery through a consistent flow:
The "Number Sense" Warm-up (5 mins): A quick mental math game or "Which One Doesn't Belong" to get the brain in math mode.
The Mini-Lesson (15 mins): Direct instruction on a specific 5th-grade standard (e.g., multiplying decimals or adding unlike fractions) using interactive whiteboards.
Guided Practice (20 mins): We solve problems together ("I do, we do, you do"), where I identify and clear up misconceptions in real-time.
Independent Application (15 mins): The student tackles a "challenge problem" to demonstrate their new skill.
Wrap-up & Reflection (5 mins): A quick "Exit Ticket" to ensure they feel ready for their next school assignment.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
What differentiates me is my dual perspective: I am a current 5th-grade classroom teacher who knows exactly what the state standards require, but I am also Early Childhood certified. This means I can "diagnose" exactly where a student’s math foundation cracked in 2nd or 3rd grade and repair it. I don't just teach kids how to get the right answer; I teach them how to think like mathematicians.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are specifically designed for Elementary Students (primarily 4th and 5th Grade) who are:
Navigating the rigors of Common Core or state-specific math standards.
Transitioning from basic arithmetic to complex multi-step word problems.
Preparing for middle school placement exams or standardized testing.
Dealing with "math anxiety" and in need of a supportive, patient expert to rebuild their confidence.
