About James

Hi, I’m James — a professional songwriter, producer, and engineer with over 15 years of experience in the music industry. I specialise in Pop, Indie, Dance/Electronic, R&B, and Hip Hop, and I’ve worked with artists like Foals, Dry Cleaning, and The Voice finalist Sophie May Williams.

My productions have been featured on Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe Show, Spotify’s New Music Friday, Live Nation’s Ones to Watch, and TV shows like Made in Chelsea and The Apprentice.

I started out as the frontman and songwriter for the Brighton-based indie band Safe to Swim, earning praise from NME, DIY Magazine, and CLASH, and performing at major UK festivals. Since 2019, I’ve focused on music production and audio engineering, collaborating with top producers including Larry Hibbitt, Oli Barton-Wood, and Andy Savours.

I’m passionate about teaching and mentoring. I create personalised, hands-on lessons that help each student develop their unique sound, sharpen their technical skills, and grow creatively—whether you're a total beginner or an experienced musician.

Feel free to message me to chat about your goals and how I can help you achieve them.

My rates are in line with the Musicians' Union's recommended fees for teaching. I aim to make lessons feel as close as possible to a real studio environment. That means working on your own projects—just like I do with the artists I collaborate with. I’ll guide you through building a track from scratch, answering any questions along the way. With 15 years of professional experience in music, including work with major labels, publishers, and A&Rs (all using Logic Pro), I bring real industry insight to each session. You'll also have full access to my studio and equipment. You’ll always retain full credit for anything we create—I'm here to support and guide, not take the spotlight. If you'd like to know more or arrange a quick intro chat, feel free to get in touch. I'm happy to find a time that works for you!
