About Jake
I attended the University of Derby and studied Mathematics. I originally had no intention of ever becoming a teacher (the thought of standing in front of 30 students every day was the last thing I wanted). I originally started out just providing 1 to 1 tuition at students' home/online. This then led to running small group sessions in schools. I enjoyed this and decided to try giving teaching a go. I’m happy to report it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. I completed my QTS (Qualified Teacher Status) as well as the two-year induction period (ECT years). Along the way, my experience in the classroom has had me deal with such a wide range of challenges that it’s impossible to list them here. I believe I have used these experiences to grow as not only a teacher but as a person as well. Hopefully, I can use that experience to provide quality tuition which will help my students achieve their goals in mathematics; whether it's passing at GCSE so they never have to see a maths paper again or achieving their required A-level target grade for university acceptance.

I have years of experience in one-to-one tutoring as well as teaching at a secondary school in the UK. Typical length of lessons would be an hour long (though this will be negotiable). I will use my bank of resources from secondary school teaching (worksheets, textbook questions, past paper questions) in order to provide the most relevant and worthwhile experience for each student. My in-depth knowledge of the current curriculum means I can identify and plan lessons to best suit each individual student (any RAG data, pupil progress or past results can further streamline the tuition to target areas needed for improvement). Constant use of AFL (Assessment for Learning) techniques will be present throughout each lesson meaning I can provide feedback and additional work after the lesson to further consolidate learning.
