About Charles
When I'm not teaching maths, I'm working in the creative industry and this has informed my approach when it comes to teaching. I believe it's important to be able to share with students how the skills they refine in the classroom can come in handy in a variety of industries. Problem solving is a skill I use on a daily basis, and it wouldn't be as strong as it is without Maths.

My name is Charles Olayinka and I’ve been tutoring for over 10 years and teaching as an associate lecturer at London Metropolitan University for the last eights years. My goal is to inspire my students to adopt a growth mindset and believe that anyone can be a ‘maths person’
I ask each of my students to sign an agreement before we start working where they pledge to give their best effort but also set a clear goal that they want to achieve through our sessions. This provides the foundation for our sessions as we constantly revert back to this when effort starts to wane or when working through difficult topics. I make use of mindfulness techniques before the start of each session to allow students to center themselves before we begin a lesson and I work tirelessly to ensure my students understand each topic we work on, I’ve been known to sometimes divert from my original lesson plan if I know we need to spend extra time on a specific topic.
I try my best to take each students specific strengths and weaknesses into consideration to create a bespoke teaching style for each person I work with. I want everyone to love maths as much as I do and realise that with time and effort we can all be ‘maths people’. In the past I’ve used my experience in the creative industry to engage my less traditionally academic students, showing them how I still use the problem solving skills I developed in the classroom to work with global brands to create national campaigns.
I have experience supporting students through Edexcel, OCR and AQA.
