About Chuchu
My relevant teaching experience is built on a solid academic background and over six years of practice. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and a Master's degree in the same field, with studies in the Philosophy of Language centered on the work of Martin Heidegger. This background permeates the way I understand and transmit the language: I conceive language not as a mere set of grammatical rules, but as a horizon of meaning – a way of being in the world and relating to others. This philosophical perspective allows me to help each student connect emotionally and cognitively with Brazilian Portuguese, rather than just memorizing structures mechanically.
I have been teaching Brazilian Portuguese and Spanish as foreign languages for over six years, working with students from various nationalities, in both in-person and online formats, adapting to different time zones, learning paces, and cultural backgrounds. My experience covers all levels, from A1 to C2, and a wide range of profiles: from absolute beginners who need to take their first steps with confidence, to professionals and executives who require the language for business meetings, formal emails, and presentations, to university students who need support in academic reading and text production. I have also worked with travelers and expatriates looking to navigate everyday situations in Brazil, as well as lovers of Brazilian culture who wish to understand the language in its artistic and social context, through music, film, and literature.
Regarding preparation for official exams, I have experience with CELPE-Bras, the official certificate of Portuguese proficiency for foreigners. I have guided students through all phases of the process: training in reading comprehension with scientific, journalistic, and literary texts; intensive practice in written production, including drafting letters, emails, and opinion articles; mock oral tests with current topics and real-life communicative situations; and strategies for time management and test anxiety. This comprehensive approach has allowed most of my students to achieve their desired results with confidence and competence.
My teaching methodology is interactive, holistic, and deeply personalized. I aim to build each session as a living space for exchange, where mistakes are part of the learning process and curiosity is the main driving force. I work with a multisensory approach that integrates four fundamental pillars: the textual, through reading and analyzing chronicles by contemporary Brazilian authors, bossa nova lyrics, news from outlets like Folha de S.Paulo or O Globo, and literary excerpts; the visual, through images, infographics, mind maps, cartoons, and short films that consolidate vocabulary and activate associative memory; the auditory, with songs, podcasts, and recorded dialogues in different Brazilian regional accents to train the ear for the country's sonic diversity; and the conversational, by raising topics of genuine interest to the student – such as sports, cinema, philosophy, technology, or politics – and fostering spontaneous dialogue in which I correct gently and strategically so as not to break the communicative flow.
Additionally, I incorporate brief mindfulness and breathing awareness exercises, drawn from my twenty years of practice and teaching of Yoga, which have given me an attentive perspective on the body, breath, and presence. These tools help reduce emotional blocks, improve pronunciation – working on voice projection and rhythm – and maintain concentration throughout the class, creating a more relaxed and effective learning environment. Since I speak English, I can conduct classes in that language for beginner levels or to explain complex grammatical questions without the student feeling lost, which is especially useful for English-speaking students who are just starting out in Portuguese.
Finally, I maintain an ongoing commitment to updating and continuous improvement: I attend language teaching events, participate in methodological exchange groups with other teachers, and keep a network of contacts with native speakers from different regions of Brazil, which allows me to offer up-to-date, authentic, and culturally rich material. In short, I don't just teach a language – I accompany each student on a journey of personal discovery where Brazilian Portuguese becomes a tool for connection, expression, and growth. My philosophical background, my experience in languages, and my attentive focus on the human being all converge to make learning a unique and transformative experience.

Hello! I'm Professor Hugo, holding a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Philosophy, with specialized studies in the Philosophy of Language through the work of Heidegger. But don't let that intimidate you – my approach is not theoretical or abstract, but practical, human, and deeply communicative.
I've been teaching Portuguese (and Spanish) as a foreign language for over 6 years, and I've helped many students gain confidence, fluency, and a genuine understanding of the language. My philosophical background allows me to understand language as something alive – something that reflects how we think, feel, and exist in the world. That's why my classes go far beyond grammar: they invite you to inhabit Portuguese through your own experience.
My methodology is interactive and multisensory. We work with texts (from news articles to literature and poetry), visual resources (images, mind maps, videos), audio materials (music, podcasts, real-life dialogues), and above all, plenty of conversation from day one. But what makes my classes truly unique is that I design every session around you. Your interests, your goals – whether traveling, working, passing an exam, or simply connecting with Brazilian culture – are at the center of everything. And if you enjoy it, we can also integrate breathing exercises and body awareness, drawn from my 20 years of experience as a Yoga teacher, so you can learn with more calm, clarity, and presence.
If you need to prepare for certification exams (such as CELPE-Bras), I have extensive experience in focused preparation: mock tests, reading comprehension strategies, written production, and oral expression. I'll help you arrive confident and well-trained.
Whether you're a beginner who wants to start on the right foot, an intermediate student looking to unlock your fluency, an advanced learner wanting to polish details and sound more natural and/or professional, a traveler, a lover of Brazilian culture, or simply curious about the language – we're in this together!
So, learning a language is so much more than memorizing rules – it's opening a door to new ways of seeing the world. And I'm here to accompany you on that journey with listening, respect, and plenty of joy.
