About Francisco
As a Los Angeles native and nurtured within a household filled to the brim with acting and music at his disposal, Francisco Crow was born to create, and perform. He started his career acting and singing in numerous productions throughout his youth which included Little Shop of Horrors, Marat De Sade, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and even co-wrote a one-act play at the age of 14 based on Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. One day he came across the talents of percussionists, Ricardo “Tiki” Pasilles (Drummer for Marc Anthony, and Jennifer Lopez, and Percussionist Arturo Sandoval) and Joey De Leon which opened his eyes and ears to the beauty and syncopation of Latin Percussion at Pasadena City College. Soon afterwards he began his schooling at the Berklee College of Music studying with great professors such as Sa Davis, Michael Rhinquist, and Euquie Castrillo. Upon his return to Los Angeles, he dove headfirst into the music scene playing with countless bands and performers as a side-man and back-up vocalist for Sonsoles, Orfeo, and Frankie and the BlackBirds. During this time he recorded with several artists including Rob Mullins, Roots of Mine (Turn the Page) He’s traveled the world playing, recording, and performing with the likes of Joel Mason, Grammy Nominee Bobby Rodriquez, Faramarz Aslania, Dariush, John Davidson and Clint Holmes. He’s been lucky to play alongside Beto Cuevas, Cafe Tacvba, Gabi Moreno, and Leslie Grace. He’s also shared the stage with Grammy winners, La Santa Cecilia, Quetzal, and Los Trio Ellas.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN - PROGRAM OVERVIEW In this comprehensive Latin percussion program, students will master three essential instruments: congas, timbales, and bongos while exploring seven distinct musical styles. Beginning with fundamental rhythm concepts and proper hand techniques, students progress through Salsa (learning the foundational tumbao and cascara patterns), Jazz and Latin-Jazz (developing swing feel and comping skills), Cumbia (Colombian rhythm foundations), and modern Pop integration. The program also includes deep cultural exploration of Bomba (Puerto Rican traditional rhythms like Yubá and Holandés) and Guaguancó (Cuban rumba with call-and-response techniques). Students develop technical skills including various hand techniques (open tone, bass, slap, muted), stick work for timbales, clave concepts (the rhythmic foundation of Latin music), music reading, and improvisation. Beyond technique, the curriculum emphasizes cultural understanding, ensemble playing, and performance confidence. Adults complete the program in 24 weeks with intensive daily practice, while children progress through 36 weeks with age-appropriate games and activities. By program completion, students can confidently perform in multiple Latin genres, understand the cultural significance of each style, read basic rhythm notation, improvise solos, and lead ensemble performances - creating a well-rounded foundation for lifelong musical expression in Latin percussion.

Francisco has been teaching me how to play the congas! It's clear that he has a deep understanding and appreciation of both music theory and the craft of playing. He takes the time to explain everything we go over in detail and gives fantastic hands-on instruction. He is patient and calm throughout our sessions and always answers my questions with thorough explanation. 10/10, highly recommend!
