About Claudia

I am a native Spanish language teacher based on the Gold Coast. I tutor both adults and school-age children – privately – from elementary to advanced level, including Spanish for business. With my work experience in Colombia, I refined my knowledge and use of the Spanish language in business and marketing. As a communication officer and copywriter, my responsibility was to convey corporate and scientific information into plain common messages. The aim of my work as a journalist was to inform emerging sectors of the economy on the strategies and tactics applied by well-established and successful small and medium Colombian businesses. Subsequently, I moved to London and spent over 15 years there before relocating to the Gold Coast. London offered the scope to work in Documentary Film Production. I worked as a researcher and outreach coordinator liaising and networking in both English and Spanish languages. With this opportunity, I discovered my passion for working with languages. Since then, I have been doing documentary film translation and subtitling from Spanish to English of independent production projects run in the UK. Finally, the motivation and need to improve the Spanish language skills of my bilingual son and the interaction with mothers in the same situation on the Gold Coast led me to discover the great potential and skills I have to offer as a Spanish teacher. I am equally proud and excited to motivate you to persist and succeed in your journey to learn Spanish and to share with you my knowledge of the Spanish language and culture. About the lesson

I custom-plan lessons according to each learner's aims, interests, and needs. The focus is on boosting the learner's confidence in taking part in simple conversations about daily situations and learning about Spanish-speaking cultures. In the first 15 minutes of the first lesson, I assess the student's interest, routines, and purpose for learning the language, as well as their level if they have previous experience with the language. Speaking is the essential part of my lesson. We talk about the subjects each learner is familiar and passionate about, as well as those they are interested in developing and/or knowing about the language and culture. Additionally, I teach grammar and vocabulary as required and provide homework exercises. I review homework in class to make sure the learning subject is achieved and run a small conversation to reinforce it. Equally, I suggest ideas and encourage the use of resources to increase exposure to the language.
