About Ihar
I've been playing chess for 5 years. Beyond the board, I also work as a professional English coach and climbing coach — three very different disciplines, but all built on the same foundation: structured, deliberate practice and honest feedback.
I studied at Minsk State Linguistic University and have spent 10 years teaching professionally, which shapes how I coach chess as much as it shapes how I teach language — I care less about you memorizing openings and more about you actually understanding why a position works, so the skill sticks.
I'm patient with beginners and direct with anyone chasing real rating gains — I'll tell you honestly when something isn't working rather than just being encouraging for its own sake. Outside of chess, I'm based in [current city], and I bring the same coaching philosophy across everything I teach: real improvement comes from targeted practice, not passive exposure.

My approach is built around deliberate practice, not just playing games and hoping you improve. I've been a 2000+ player for years, and I coach the way serious sport and skill training works: identify your specific weak points, drill them directly, then test them under real pressure.
A typical lesson starts with a short tactics warm-up to sharpen calculation, then we review a recent game of yours — mine or an engine's analysis won't replace understanding why a move works, so I always ask you to explain your thinking first. From there we go deep on whatever's actually holding you back: calculation speed, opening understanding, endgame technique, or decision-making under time pressure. Every lesson ends with a specific, concrete thing to practice before the next one — not vague "just play more" advice.
What sets me apart: I'm not only a chess coach. I also coach English and climbing, and all three share the same underlying principle — skill comes from structured, deliberate repetition with honest feedback, not passive exposure. That cross-disciplinary lens means I'm unusually good at diagnosing why a specific pattern isn't sticking for you, not just pointing out that it isn't.
I work with players from motivated beginners who want a real foundation to intermediate and advancing players preparing for tournaments. Patient with newer players, direct and rigorous with anyone chasing rating gains.
