About Lourdes

I am a scientist in love with statistics because it has allowed me to put my ideas in order to express them so that others can understand them. Statistics offer that magical possibility to tell stories and make them attractive and understandable. I was born in Caracas, Venezuela, and I got a degree in Biology from the Universidad Central de Venezuela (UCV, Central University of Venezuela) and since the middle of my degree I focused on biostatistics, which is the part of mathematics that allows organizing biological data, presenting them and making decisions based on information. In 2005 I held my doctorate in Sciences (UCV) where I made mathematical descriptions of ecological systems through multivariate statistical models, which relate ecological communities and the physical environment. In 2005 I became a professor of Biostatistics and Advanced Statistics at the UCV, at the same time that I began to take more courses in the statistical area that allowed me to continue advancing in the world of data and to master various statistical programs. Later on, in 2014, I moved to Argentina and started providing services as a statistical advisor to students and professionals, mainly (but not limited) to the clinical area. Nowadays I offer those services to other countries, especially if I can help other people to understand and love statistics. Remote technologies have allowed me to reach many people who may need my services, so I offer my classes around the world, as long as we can communicate in English or Spanish.

About the lesson

I love statistics and I would like to show you how useful statistical tools are in your classes and research, working with you as a team to achieve an excellent result. I can help you in two areas. The first one is to serve as a guide and support in data analysis, visualization and presentation of results for thesis, research projects, conferences and webinars. To do this I need to know the objectives of your research, your hypotheses and that you describe the data you took, what you measured and how you measured it. With this we make a work plan that will allow us to tell stories with your data to achieve your research objectives. The second topic is to give you lessons on a statistical topic that you need to learn. In that case, you must send me the material with the exercises to solve, so I can prepare your class. If you don't have material, I can provide it, recommend you readings, videos and explain you everything you don't understand in an online class. To be able to do this it is necessary that there is good COMMUNICATION, you must tell me what you need because I PROGRAM your class, I PREPARE it in advance so that you RECEIVE the best. Also, I need to know what CITY you are in, to coordinate the time differences that may exist. I am a planned person, serious and committed to my work, I like to provide the student with the best help to achieve all their goals.

Perfect! Dr. Suarez was an excellent resource. I needed assistance refining the statistics for a research paper. Dr. Suarez helped me identify and correct the weak areas of my statistical analysis. She also efficiently completed the more complex statistical calculations. She patiently explained basic and complex statistical concepts. Lourdes is truly awesome! She always has a fun analogy to make sure the concepts behind statistical tests are clear. With her, it's always easy to know what kind of data you have and WHAT you want to do with it. This can be even more important than HOW to perform the tests, but she is also very capable of helping you understand the how.
