About Phoebe

I recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics with minors in mathematics and Spanish. I am now pursuing a master's degree in biophysics which allows me to dip my feet into pretty much all areas of science and learn about some pretty interesting medical applications. While in college, I spent a year providing general tutoring for refugee high school students which allowed me to develop my skills in teaching to a diverse population with highly varying needs, background knowledge, life conditions, language skills, and interest in the topics they were engaging with. I am passionate about learning and sharing knowledge with others. Being a woman pursuing a graduate degree in STEM along with an individual who has experienced and overcome many academic challenges, I know what it is like to struggle, to deal with impostor syndrome and to generally feel like you are not good enough or "meant" to do well in the topics you are studying. My goal is to increase confidence for anyone struggling academically or trying to find their place in the subject they are studying, especially those who find themselves underrepresented in the fields that they are studying.

About the lesson

My teaching philosophy is to solve with rather than for my student. It is important to me that I meet each student where they are at and ensure that the base of knowledge and reasoning for a concept is present in order to grant skills for approaching new applications going forward. I posses the background to help solve questions in these topics, but also know that each student is unique in how they learn so I make sure to be receptive to feedback from them about which techniques work best for their understanding. Teaching is not a one-size-fit-all job, and having an equitable approach is important to me. A student's way of coming to understand is influenced Explanation, examples, schematic illustrations, practice exercises, and asking the student to repeat back what their understanding is are all techniques I use while tutoring.

I want to make my lessons as accessible as possible and I know that many people can find themselves struggling in school do not have extra income to purchase resources. If you find yourself unable to afford lessons but needing help, please reach out to me and we will try to work something out. Please know that I am a student and on a limited budget myself and avoid taking advantage if you are in a position to afford tutoring. I will always try to keep my prices low.
