About Maddy

Hi, I’m Maddy! I’m a PhD candidate based in Philly working in a cardiovascular research lab, and I spend my days studying biology in a real-world research setting. When I’m not in the lab, I’m usually hanging out with my cat and dog, who keep things interesting and are very unhelpful study partners.

I’ve always loved breaking down complicated biology concepts into something that actually makes sense, and I bring that into my tutoring. I try to keep things relaxed and approachable while still making sure you really understand the material, not just memorize it. My goal is to help you feel more confident walking into exams and less overwhelmed when you’re studying.

I work with high school and college students, especially in general biology, cell biology, molecular biology, and physiology, as well as pre-med courses. Whether you need regular support or just help before a big test, I tailor everything to fit your goals and how you learn best.

About the lesson

I offer personalized biology tutoring designed to make complex concepts clear, engaging, and actually stick. My teaching approach focuses on breaking down difficult material into manageable pieces, using visual aids, real world examples, and active recall techniques to reinforce learning rather than memorization. I adapt each session to how you learn best, whether that is diagrams, practice questions, or talking through concepts step by step.

A typical session starts with a quick check in to identify problem areas, followed by targeted review of key concepts, and then application through practice questions or data interpretation, which is especially helpful for exams. We wrap up with a brief summary and strategies for independent studying so you feel confident moving forward.

What sets me apart is my background as a PhD researcher in cardiovascular medicine, where I actively apply biology every day, so I do not just teach the what, but also the why and how it is used in real science. I also emphasize critical thinking and test taking strategies, which can make a huge difference in performance.
