About Sophie
I am a near Cancer Biology Masters graduate from Imperial College, and have also undertaken my Undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Manchester, where I achieved a First class. I am now working towards gaining PhD and becoming a cancer researcher. The main reason I started teaching was to help nurture the next generation of scientists, and to try get more people interested in the fascinating world of science! I also love to see my students develop and succeed, it is a greatly rewarding job to have. My long list of tutoring experience has spanned a number of different institutions and charities, including the Tutor Trust in Greater Manchester, and Oxford Summer Courses in Oxford. I have gained recognition for my teaching through receiving Outstanding Tutor commendation from the Tutor Trust, and having heard very positive feedback from other students.

I like my lessons to be hands-on and engage the student to gain confidence in their ability by creating a safe-space to make mistakes and learn from those mistakes. By building this rapport, we can have productive lessons that are useful in understanding key concepts of the course, as well as mastering how to answer the all-important exam questions. I have plenty of experience (3 years now), of both online and in-person tutoring. Typically, I use a combination of PowerPoint presentations, with various online content and past paper questions, curated to the student's needs. A lesson is usually around 1 hour long, to give us enough time to go through content, ask questions, and go through exam content. My lessons are for GSCE students taking any Science or Maths, and A-Level Biology students.
