About Lois
My long-term goal is to be a university lecturer in the field I choose to specialise in (still undecided!). I have always had a passion for teaching, and genuinely enjoy helping others achieve their academic goals and grow their confidence.
For me, one of the most important things in teaching is to tailor the delivery of content specifically to each student. Teaching and learning is not a one-size-fits-all situation, and I aim to help each student learn what works best for them. This is extremely important for progression into higher education, which is much more independent in terms of revision.
My sessions can range from traditional lecture-based teaching, interactive visual presentation of content, to using online quiz platforms (such as kahoot). If you work better in a group of friends, that can also be arranged. As long as it works for you, it works for me!

Techniques & teaching methods:
Before starting content, I make sure to understand what each student aims to achieve during these sessions. This could be breaking down concepts step-by-step, focusing on revision techniques, or going through mark schemes to know exactly what criteria must be met for the exams.
I make sure to have an understanding of both where students lack confidence and where they excel, to make sure they get the most out of these sessions.
I am committed to helping students gain much more than a surface-level understanding of their subjects, which is so important for sitting exams with confidence and the least amount of stress possible!
Typical lesson length:
Each session will last 60 minutes to allow for optimum focus and retention of what content we will cover. 90 minute sessions can also be offered if you think it will be beneficial!
My qualifications/experience:
I am graduating in July with a 1st Class BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from Edge Hill University. Relevant modules I have achieved top grades in include cell biology, immunology, anatomy & physiology, molecular genetics, and biodiversity. These topics coupled with copious amounts of hands-on experience in practical lab work means I have a deep understanding of all aspects required to excel at the content for GCSE biology.
My tutoring experience comes from helping family and friends with biology content at numerous different levels (GCSE up to university) and providing revision tips when necessary. Through numerous presentations during my time at university I have developed the communication skills that are really important for breaking down difficult concepts into more accessible content.
Who my lessons are for:
Anyone who feels they may benefit from a bit of extra support when it comes to GCSE biology content. Sessions are mostly aimed at year 10 and year 11 students, but are open to year 9s who want to get ahead. Also open to students who require support for GCSE biology re-sit.
