About Kanu

From a young age, I have always done extremely well in academics, consistently winning awards, joining the honor roll at every level, and getting the opportunity to study at some of the best universities in the world. I started tutoring in seventh grade after excelling at the Math Olympiad and ever since tutoring has become like second nature to me, there's nothing I love more than seeing a student understand something they've been struggling with. At 16 I got the opportunity to both study at Johns Hopkins as well as research cancer at the University of Oxford. By the time I had gotten to university, I was tutoring students in subjects I had yet to take, preparing myself by simply studying the subject straight from the textbook. Lastly, I am proud to say every one of my students has done quite well after working with me and enjoyed their time during our sessions.

About the lesson

In my time working with students from second grade all the way to graduate school, I've learned no one person learns in the same way. I customize every session to the student, however, I find it ideal if the student is either already enrolled in a class or is pursuing some sort of academic competition around which we can base our sessions. Typically, I either review or help students do their homework followed by a reinforcement of the concepts through practice. In my experience, I find the best way to improve in math no matter the age level is to practice with a focus on understanding and speed. While for the sciences I find a very thorough explanation accompanied by memorization mixed in with practice is best. As the science of study becomes more math-based like in chemistry and physics, I find leaning more on practice instead of memorization is most optimal.
