About Miss Ellie

Hello! My name is Ellie and I am currently a student at the University of Liverpool studying for a Bachelor’s degree in Biological and Medical Sciences. Alongside my studies, I am enrolled in several societies such as the 'Racing society' and the 'Liverpool Life Sciences society' as I value social communication skills very highly, something I can keep developing by getting involved with the University community!

I have always really loved the sciences and maths (amongst others) but struggled a little when it came to exams, so I can fully appreciate how frustrating it is to not understand something and sometimes all you need is a little extra help or a different perspective to help you to be able to smash your exams! Over time I have picked up lots of tips and tricks to learning content and acing the exams and I can now confidently say I almost enjoy them now! I have tutored in the past a wide variety of ages all the way from Year 6 to Year 12's and it gives me great joy to see my students progress and excel in their subjects!

About the lesson

I take a very tailored approach to my method of teaching as through past experience I have found that each student learns differently! My typical lesson structure is to first explain the theory required for understanding and answering questions followed by worked examples and eventually independently worked questions (which we will always work through at the end for consolidation!). This structure is then adapted to best suit the individual student based on observations I make in the first lesson and any requests from the student themselves.

All my previous students have mentioned that the way in which I explain theories and answer questions is much more relatable to them than the way they are typically taught in class, something I believe comes from the fact I am still a student. My lessons are typically an hour-long as I believe effective learning best occurs in shorter time spans.

I have had two years of tutoring experience in the past, tutoring students from age 11 right up to 18 years, covering the 11+, GCSE's, A levels and the International Baccalaureate. I typically focus on the STEM subjects, with a particular focus on Biology, Chemsitry, Physics and Mathematics; however, I also have extensive experience in tutoring students in Geography and English.
