I am a Biochemistry and Human Biology student in the third year of my degree. I have been tutoring for two years and have experience tutoring GCSE, A-level and University level.

I have experience tutoring at GCSE, A-level and University level.
From my experience of tutoring, I believe that a structured approach is often the most successful. It would be up to tutee to come with topics which they do not understand or perhaps need clarifying - from there we work on ensuring that these topics are covered first and then incorporate them into the whole Spec of what they need to know. I tend to like to produce PowerPoint presentations which tutees can take home and keep following the sessions. This means that the sessions are not focused on taking notes but rather understanding the content and being able to apply it.
Although I believe that a structured approach can, in many cases, be a useful way of tutoring I am fully aware that this may not be the best method for some students; some students may just wish to book sessions to review only a few 'odd bits' here and there and may altogether prefer a different approach to learning. For this reason, I adapt my session to suit whichever method of teaching suits my students best.
Being a university student, I have been exposed to a wide variety of teaching methods and a range of strategies which are helpful in learning and retaining new information.
The students are the ones who will be learning, and it is important to find the best way for them to so - this may be different to how they are taught in school or college. No matter what the best way for you to learn is I will do my best to incorporate it into the sessions as much as possible, in order to ensure maximum success.
