About Andrea
I am a bilingual elementary school teacher with professional experience teaching in both Colombia and the United States. I currently work in a dual language immersion program, where I support students in developing strong academic skills in reading, writing, and language development in both Spanish and English.
My tutoring approach is structured, patient, and highly individualized. I focus on meeting each student where they are and building a clear path toward confidence and academic growth. I use proven instructional strategies such as scaffolding, guided practice, repetition, and visual supports to ensure students fully understand each concept before moving forward.
A typical lesson is organized and goal-oriented, while still flexible enough to respond to the student’s needs. Each session includes a warm-up, direct instruction, guided practice, independent application, and a short review to reinforce learning and track progress.
What sets me apart is my real classroom experience. As an active teacher in a U.S. school system, I understand academic expectations, learning standards, and the challenges students face in the classroom. This allows me to provide targeted support that directly aligns with school curriculum and helps students improve both confidence and performance.
My lessons are designed for elementary students (K–5), English language learners, and students who need support in reading, writing, phonics, ESL, and Spanish language development. I am committed to helping each student build strong foundational skills and become a more confident, independent learner.

My teaching approach is patient, structured, and student-centered. I adapt each lesson to the student’s level, learning style, and academic goals. I use a mix of guided practice, visual supports, repetition, and real-life examples to make concepts clear and meaningful.
For younger learners, I focus on building strong foundational skills through phonics, reading comprehension strategies, and interactive activities. For ESL students, I emphasize vocabulary development, speaking confidence, and practical communication skills.
I also use scaffolding techniques to gradually build independence, helping students move from guided practice to confident, independent learning.
A typical session is structured but flexible depending on student needs:
Warm-up (5–10 min): Quick review or conversation to activate prior knowledge
Target Skill (15–20 min): Focused instruction on reading, writing, phonics, or ESL concept
Guided Practice (15–20 min): Student practices with support and feedback
Independent Practice (10–15 min): Student applies skills independently
Wrap-up (5 min): Review, corrections, and setting goals for next session
Homework help sessions are more flexible and focused on current school assignments.
What makes me different is my real classroom experience. I am currently a bilingual elementary teacher in a dual language immersion program in the U.S., and I bring that same professional teaching experience into my tutoring sessions.
I understand how students learn in school settings and how to close learning gaps effectively. I also have experience working with diverse learners, including English language learners and students who need extra academic support.
My goal is not just to help students complete assignments, but to build confidence, independence, and long-term academic skills.
My tutoring is designed for:
Elementary students (Grades K–5)
Students needing support in reading, writing, and phonics
ESL learners at beginner and intermediate levels
Spanish language learners or bilingual students
Students who need homework help or academic reinforcement
I especially support students who need extra confidence in reading comprehension, literacy development, and language acquisition in both Spanish and English.
