About Jordin
I was bedridden for 5 years in my youth, and taught myself to play 14 instruments. If there's an instrument you want to learn, I can probably teach it to you!
I studied Music Therapy at Berklee College of Music as a vocal principal, and have been a Music Therapist and Music Teacher for the last decade. I've specialized in children with disabilities for the last ten years, and am now trying to open the door of opportunity to take on any kind of student instead of focusing in on any specific population. I am a transgender man, so my vocal experience is interesting, because I used to have a really high voice, and then had to relearn how to sing with a much deeper voice. I'm happy to offer discounts to any trans folks who are trying to relearn their voice after starting HRT.

METHOD:
My teaching approach centers on creating a safe, supportive space where students feel comfortable expressing themselves, because I believe music is as much about feeling as it is about technique. I emphasize that the way you feel when you play directly shapes the sound you create—and that sound, in turn, impacts how others experience it.
Rather than treating music as an obligation, I encourage students to connect with it with a genuine desire, fostering intrinsic motivation and a sense of personal meaning. I also stress the importance of consistent effort and curiosity, reminding students that often, growth comes from a willingness to keep learning, not just relying on natural talent. Having experienced firsthand how powerful music can be as a source of motivation and healing, I guide students to build a personal, evolving relationship with their instrument—whether it’s their voice or something they hold in their hands.
TYPICAL LESSON PLAN:
Varies based on the instrument you're wanting to learn, but I try to keep a consistent structure in place overall, which looks like:
- Warm up- usually scales but sometimes we'll take a specific part of a song that you enjoy and practice it in every key to apply scales to real music to help build your ear and music theory concepts.
- Work on a song of your choosing, or if you don't have any songs you'd like to learn, I always come prepared with 4-5 songs for you to choose from! Thinking of songs you actually want to learn before coming to a lesson is helpful, because we will work on one song for a few weeks in a row, until you're feeling comfortable to move onto the next tune.
- Finish with some kind of improvisational exercise to encourage exploration and discovery on your instrument. This is usually one of the hardest parts for new students! It can be scary to mess up when you're not practicing by yourself in your room, but that's why this exercise exists! My biggest goal as a teacher is not to make anybody "the best" at their instrument, but to help my students understand that their relationship to self-expression holds a direct correlation to how "good" they are at their instrument.
WHO THESE LESSONS ARE FOR:
Anybody who holds a desire to LEARN MORE, whether you've never picked up an instrument a day in your life, or you've been playing for 15 years. We can always learn more from other people's perspectives.
I have a decade of experience working with:
-Children ages 5 through 18 (I wouldn't recommend starting music lessons any earlier than 5 years old)
- Children and adults with special needs
Working with this population has gifted me with a toolbox of skills that have shaped me as a teacher, and it's given me a patience that has grown to be one of my greatest qualities as a teacher. I am hoping to use this platform to expand the populations I work with!
