About Sora

I am a UC Berkeley student majoring in Environmental Economics & Policy and Data Science, where I apply mathematical thinking to real-world problems in data analysis, economics, and technology. Outside the classroom, I work with AI, climate technology, and healthcare startups, using analytical skills to solve complex business and research challenges.

Academically, I earned perfect scores on both Calculus I midterm exams, as well as a perfect score on the Calculus II Midterm 2 and Final Exam. Before exams, I regularly tutored classmates through UC Berkeley's Academic Center. Many of the students I worked with had fallen behind in class or skipped lectures, so I focused on rebuilding their understanding from the fundamentals rather than simply showing them how to solve problems.

My teaching philosophy is simple: I never move on until a student truly understands the concept and can solve similar problems independently. I ask students to explain their reasoning, identify gaps in their understanding, and practice until they gain confidence in solving problems on their own. Through this approach, I helped around five classmates improve their performance and earn A grades in their calculus courses.

Whether you are preparing for school exams, AP Calculus, or college-level mathematics, my goal is to help you develop genuine understanding, confidence, and long-term problem-solving skills—not just memorize formulas for the next test.

About the lesson

I believe students learn math best by actively solving problems, not by simply watching someone explain them.

At the beginning of each lesson, I first check the student's understanding of the concepts and identify any gaps. Then, we work through carefully selected practice problems together. Rather than solving everything myself, I ask students to write out each step while I guide their thinking with questions and hints.

Once we have covered a concept, students solve similar problems independently while I observe their reasoning. We only move on after they can solve the problems confidently on their own. This approach helps build real understanding instead of short-term memorization.

My lessons are personalized for each student's goals, whether they are preparing for school exams, improving their grades, building a stronger foundation, or studying more advanced mathematics. As a UC Berkeley student, I combine a strong mathematical background with a patient, structured teaching style that focuses on helping students become independent problem solvers.
