About Roland

I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Marketing from Champlain College. I have a varied career of working with youth and teaching. I have served as a conservation leader, working with youth in a variety of trail building projects. From there, I was a wilderness guide, again working with youth and teaching them social and survival skills. I am employed by the Essex Westford School District as a Behavior Interventionist. I am a certified Registered Behavior Technician, and am working toward acquiring my Special Educator License within the state of Vermont.

About the lesson

I always begin by establishing a rapport with whoever I am working with. Who wants to learn from somebody they don't like? I believe everyone is capable of doing just about anything, they just might not have learned the proper approach yet.

My goal is to empower the learner so they fully understand the material, ensuring mastery rather than replication. My approach will vary for each learner, meeting them where they are at. I will first assess the current ability of the learner, and then identify the gaps that must be closed in order to master the required material. I incorporate hands-on learning, getting the learner involved in the instruction, and ensuring the lesson is fit for their work. My lessons are for a variety of math subjects from the grades of elementary to high school.

I like to create a calm, friendly, and fun environment for everyone involved. Learning doesn't have to be boring!
