About Patricia

My passion for teaching is what makes my work to stand out.

What I enjoy the most about my work is the opportunity that it gives me to impact my students lives in a way that helps them in achieving their goals, and have better opportunities in life. Based on my own experience I understand the importance of learning a second language and the joy and satisfaction that it brings to ours lives. I'm a native spanish speaker from Colombia SA and I have lived and visited different countries since I was young. I lived in the Philippines for some time, where I started learning English as a second language. Then I lived in Mexico where I pursued my Marketing degree. Finally, and many years later because of the fact that I was English speaker, it opened for me the door to come to live and work in the US as Bilingual Certified teacher for the State of Texas.

During my 18 years of experience as bilingual teacher in Houston, I have continued with my professional development through the academic training offered by my employer Alief ISD and it has contributed to my sucessful career since I joined the Education Field. I have worked with ESL and bilingual students as teacher and also as the ESL Lead Specialist at Landis Elementary. I retired last year 2020 and at this time I continue working as Part Time Teacher for Alief ISD at Landis Elementary.

Before I came to Houston I worked in ITESO (Instituto Tecnologico de Estudios Superiores de Occidente) in Guadalajara since 1990 until 2003 when I joined the Bilingual Teacher Program in Houston through Region IV. I was hired by Alief ISD.

I was trained by Region IV, in Guadalajara, in order to get the Texas Teacher certificate. I also took the complementary courses at St. Thomas University in Huston.

About the lesson

Before I work with a new student it is important for me to know what are the student's needs as well as his/her goals in taking Spanish lessons. Depending on the information, and after a previous Spanish evaluation to determine the student's Spanish level, I proceed to implement a lesson plan based on objectives and evaluations in order to monitor the learning progress.

I have worked with ESL students in Primary and Intermediate. I have also work with student teachers preparing their Spanish test to become Bilingual teachers.

I would advise a teacher who really speaks good Spanish even if the teacher is native spanish speaker. Also to as for teaching background and credentials.
