About Shemuel

I have experience teaching a range of abilities in a number of disciplines ranging from law to music, with undergraduate students to 6-11 year olds. Firstly, I have tutored in Social Science subjects with a specialism in Law where at UCL, I was employed as a personal tutor for undergraduate students, tutoring on writing essays, answering legal problem questions and teaching how to effectively study. Secondly, given I hold two highly competitive postgraduate scholarships and am a national mooting champion and coach (legal advocacy), I am also equipped to offer assistance with applications for university, scholarships and interview preparation. Thirdly, I am well versed in tutoring children, having privately taught music to 6-11 year olds for 2 years, coached sports with a successful ‘under 16s’ basketball team and taught in London primary schools delivering sessions on citizenship and crime. Finally, I have also been a classroom English teacher in a renowned summer school near Beijing, in China. My teaching approach and style is both personable and expectant where I get on well with my tutees who enjoy our sessions, whilst understanding that a high degree of effort and hard work is required, which includes completing all work set. My higher expertise lies predominantly in law and music. I am a law graduate, having also spent a year studying at the University of Hong Kong; currently studying a master's in law at UCL under the Dean’s Scholarship, and have secured a further scholarship (from The Honourable Society of the Inner Temple) to train as a barrister next academic year. I have also obtained pupillage. I am a national mooting champion, have published articles in a number of areas and therefore can offer tutoring in all aspects of life as a law student, from applying to university, to writing legal essays, answering problem questions, understanding techniques to studying law, mooting, advocacy and applying for scholarships. These skills are also highly relevant and applicable to other Social Science subjects such as History, Politics, or Criminology, for instance. Finally, I am a grade 8 level classically trained saxophonist and pianist, with a passion for jazz, and have tutored both musical theory and practice for a number of years, having also been employed as a semi-professional musician as well as running my own performance-based music quintet.
