About Alia

I am a confident, enthusiastic, and stern teacher and these are qualities I always try to inspire in my students. I provide disciplined lessons while finding times to laugh and have fun throughout the process. My favorite thing about teaching is when one of my students executes something they have never done before. Whether it be completing a full solo for the first time, hitting their first triple, or understanding a step in a new way, I love sharing those moments with other dancers. Bio: I received my bachelor of science in Ballet from Indiana University's Ballet Department. At IU I had the opportunity to work with amazing contemporary and ballet teachers and teach for the pre-college program and non-major collegiate dance program. After graduation, I joined Nashville Ballet's second company program where I taught for the Community Youth Division and Academy of Nashville Ballet while dancing full-time. Since becoming a professional Ballet Dancer in Northeast Ohio, I have continued teaching for local dance studios and have loved taking part in recital preparation and production.

About the lesson

Ballet Privates: With experience in different ballet techniques I can develop individualized lessons and programs based on your goals. I am a strict and direct, yet encouraging teacher and promote dialogue in my lessons so you can mentally and physically improve your technique, artistry, and artistic understanding.
Lessons can be in person or online. They can be scheduled in 15-minute increments with a 60-minute minimum for an in-person lesson or a 30-minute minimum for online lessons.

Ballet/Contemporary Choreography: I have a wide range of choreographic history such as ballet and contemporary group pieces, collaborative choreography for senior solos and audition videos, and pieces for professional programs. When choreographing, my focus is on the dancer's strengths and style even more than my artistic vision. I always want my dancers to feel confident in the choreography I set for them and can adapt to different musical styles and technical levels.
The student(s) can send me a video of their dancing so I can assess their strengths and start choreography in advance for a fee ($15 per minute of choreography). This will decrease the amount of lessons needed to teach and coach the choreography. Without this prescreening method, please expect an hour-long lesson per minute of choreography. This can be done completely online but is suggested to be done in person except for the pre-screening.

Solo or Group dance coaching/cleaning: I have an eye for technical and choreographic detail which has made me great at cleaning all styles of group pieces. I can see the big picture in group pieces to find flaws. Then, I can zoom in to find individual technical or artistic missteps within group pieces or solos.
This can be done completely online or in person.
Student(s), teachers, or studio owners can send me videos of their dancers doing their choreography. A $15/minute of choreography fee would be added to account for the time I spent watching the video and preparing corrections. After this presentation I have two options for delivering corrections:
1) A Zoom call where we discuss corrections and workshop them in real-time. The zoom call would be priced as my normal online fee per hour.
2) I can send a voice memo and/or written corrections. This will be billed using my normal online fee per hour based on how long it takes me to record all of the corrections.
Without pre-screening, I can come to your studio or join via Zoom and watch the choreography and use stop and start cleaning techniques and workshop corrections in real time. This will be charged using my normal pay rate and must be scheduled for a minimum of one hour. Dances over 5 minutes must schedule a minimum of two hours.

Details

When I was growing up, my family could not afford private lessons. If you are in a financial situation that prevents you from ordering private lessons, please let me know and we can discuss reduced or altered prices.

The student is responsible for paying for a studio space (if necessary) for in-person lessons. I have access to studio space for a reduced fee depending on when we rent and the amount of people in the space. Please send an inquiry for more personalized studio rental rates.
