About Mathew

Teaching guitar over the past seven years has allowed me to share one of the most rewarding parts of my life—music—with students from diverse backgrounds and skill levels. I work primarily with school and college students, many of whom are just beginning their musical journeys. I focus first on building strong fundamentals: chord shapes, right- and left-hand coordination, rhythm training, and ear development. But more than anything, I strive to make each lesson meaningful and enjoyable. I believe music should never feel like a chore. That’s why I bring in real songs, student-selected material, and creative exercises from day one. Whether we’re breaking down a complex solo or writing a new melody from scratch, I ensure that each lesson is interactive and personal. I also incorporate tools like metronomes, jam tracks, and digital apps to support practice outside of lessons. One student once told me they didn’t think they had any musical ability—six months later, they were performing their first original piece in front of friends and family. That transformation is what keeps me teaching. I want every student to feel empowered, understood, and excited about their progress. Together, we’ll not only build your skills—we’ll build your confidence and creativity, too.

About the lesson

Seven years into my guitar teaching journey, I’ve discovered that music education is as much about inspiring confidence as it is about mastering technique. Each student brings a unique set of experiences and dreams, and my role is to create lessons that reflect those personal narratives. I focus on building a solid technical foundation with attention to detail in posture, picking technique, chord formation, and rhythm, ensuring students develop healthy habits from the start. But technical skill alone isn’t enough; I also nurture creativity and musical understanding by connecting lessons to songs and genres that motivate each individual. One of my proudest achievements was mentoring a young adult who wanted to learn blues and eventually performed at a local jazz club, showing remarkable growth in both skill and stage presence. I believe that learning guitar should be a joyful experience, so I incorporate games, ear training, improvisation, and songwriting into lessons to keep students engaged and inspired. I encourage a growth mindset, helping students see challenges as opportunities to learn and improve rather than obstacles. My teaching also extends beyond playing to include guidance on practice routines, performance techniques, and musical expression. Whether someone aims to perform, write music, or play for fun, I’m here to support their journey with empathy, expertise, and enthusiasm.
