About Dirk

Good day, my name is Mr. Rust, I was inspired to teach after doing an outreach program in Zambia, in an area called Siavonga, next to a giant lake called Lake Kariba. I experienced what life is like without access to education, and how the keys to education are English literacy skills. After being translated 2 times, from English to Bemba (a local language) and then to Tongan (not the island language, but an African one with the same name).

After that trip I decided I wanted to teach and equip students to the best of my ability for when they go to school. Good marks are not going to guarantee you a great future, but it will open more doors. Not only that, I just want my students to reach their potential and be confident in their abilities to write with accuracy and enjoy the wonders of literacy, the expression and stories that come along with it all.

So if you're wanting to improve and have a good time doing it, then you have found the tutor for you. If I am not him, then I say this to you, I hope you find someone that does an incredible job and that you get even better results than you could have dreamed of. Just know you are not what your results say, you are so so much more than that, but you have the ability to change those marks every day.

About the lesson

Age dependent we'll be focusing on improving writing accuracy, understanding questions and appropriately responding to questions.

I am easily able to assist students wanting to improve their general vocabulary, to improve their expression in English writing. I have completed additional training with the DSF (Dyslexia SPELD Foundation), where the upper primary skill of taught for creative writing was taught.

In the last two years I have been teaching cohorts how to write PEEL paragraphs which is a pivotal skill that is used all throughout high school.

My lessons would ideally be for students ranging from year 4 - year 8. But I am happy to take on younger years, my colleagues who have an abundance of resources.

I have been teaching for two and a half years, and prior to that I was working as an education assistant helping with their intervention programs, where students who needed additional support would spend time with me during other class activities to improve their general literacy and numeracy.

Ideally my lessons would go for forty-five minutes to an hour.
