About Teresa

I am Teresa Macedo Ferreira, an award-winning Portuguese violist and professional musician with extensive international experience as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player.

In 2025, I was awarded the prestigious Young Portuguese Musician of the Year title, alongside First Prize in the Viola category of the Prémio Jovens Músicos competition.

I graduated with First Class Honours from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and completed my Guildhall Artist Masters at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama in London with Distinction. I have also pursued postgraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp.

My professional experience includes working with the London Symphony Orchestra through its String Experience Scheme, the London Philharmonic Orchestra through its Foyle Future Firsts programme, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Scottish Ensemble. In 2025, I undertook a trial as Principal Viola with the Ulster Orchestra.

Alongside my orchestral career, I regularly perform as a soloist and chamber musician, with appearances at prestigious venues and festivals across Europe.

I am passionate about sharing my musical knowledge and experience with the next generation of musicians, as well as helping adults discover or rediscover the joy of playing an instrument.

I offer private violin and viola lessons in London, with an individual approach that encourages technical development, musical confidence and artistic expression.

About the lesson

I offer personalised violin and viola lessons for students of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to advanced musicians.

My teaching approach combines strong technical foundations with musical creativity, expression and enjoyment. I believe that every student has their own musical personality, and I adapt my lessons to their individual needs, goals and pace of learning.

Lessons can focus on developing a beautiful sound, improving technique and intonation, building confidence in performance, exploring repertoire, or preparing for examinations, auditions and orchestral playing.

Drawing on my experience as a professional orchestral and solo musician, I aim to share not only technical knowledge but also a genuine passion for music.

Whether you are learning an instrument for the first time, returning to music after a break, or working towards a professional musical career, my goal is to help you develop your skills in a supportive, inspiring and enjoyable environment.

Lessons take place at my private teaching space in London.
