About Hashim Umar

I have been deeply passionate about education and the transformative power of knowledge, as I journeyed through starting a STEM degree, leaving it to focus on the humanities and thereafter, social sciences, I have ventured through all avenues thus far and appreciate every topic and the pursuit of knowledge itself. I am currently deciding to get into tutoring again outside students I tutor privately to help more students and fill my spare time before I start my PhD next year. Teaching allows me to share this passion, inspire curiosity, and help students unlock their full potential. I believe in creating an open, engaging, and intellectually stimulating environment where students feel empowered to ask questions, think critically, and grow in confidence. Every lesson is an opportunity to nurture not just academic excellence, but a lifelong love of learning!

About the lesson

As a passionate tutor with a strong academic background, I believe in making every lesson a journey of discovery and I am only here to tutor as a hobby to those who want it. My approach is student-centred and friendly: I adapt my teaching style to each individual, combining clear explanations with Socratic-'esque' questioning to deepen critical thinking. Lessons typically run for 60 minutes, though I can adjust to suit your pace and goals, whether that be shorter or longer. If you have questions, I will never cut a lesson short, you will leave fully understanding the topic even if it runs us over-time. I hold a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics where and a First-Class Honours in Islamic Studies & Arabic from the Markfield Institute, alongside research experience with leading international non-governmental organisations, where I have presented at Harvard, Cambridge & Sapienza. My sessions are ideal for GCSE, A-Level, undergraduate, and adult learners who want to develop a deeper and broader understanding of anthropology, history, religious studies, Quranic studies, and Middle Eastern studies. I am happy to teach Islamic Studies or offer research assistance too. Together, we’ll build not only knowledge but confidence and genuine enthusiasm for your subject and for you.
