About David
Hi, I’m David Block. I’m a working graphic designer, author, and high school graphic design teacher based in Southern California. I’ve been a professional in the field since 1991, and I’ve spent the last 20 years building one of the strongest high school design programs in the region — where my students take on real client work, manage pop-up shops, and earn industry certifications. I specialize in logo design, brand identity, illustration, digital design, packaging, and layout. I also run a YouTube channel focused on design education and creative careers. My teaching style is hands-on, practical, and honest — I give my students the same tools and feedback I’d give to junior designers in a studio. Whether you're a beginner just opening Photoshop for the first time or an aspiring designer looking to sharpen your portfolio, I bring real-world insight, creative support, and plenty of tools to help you grow.

If you're looking to learn graphic design in a way that actually makes sense, you're in the right place.
I work with students at all levels — from total beginners to creatives building a portfolio — and we’ll either walk through the full creative process together or just focus on mastering the apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Some people want to work on real projects. Others just want to learn the tools. Either way is fine.
I teach the same way I do with my advanced high school design students: clear explanations, honest feedback, and creative problem-solving. I won’t waste your time with fluff — I’ll show you how to use the tools, how to think like a designer, and how to actually make good work.
You can expect sessions that include:
~ Learning the Adobe tools with real examples
~ Practicing layout, typography, and branding
~ Working through design projects (if you're ready)
~ Fixing mistakes and learning from them
~ Building confidence in your creative decisions
