About Cynthia

As a recently graduated HSC student, I know firsthand how difficult it is to keep up with the demands. Especially with subjects like English and visual arts, it is often difficult to improve without direct, one-on-one feedback. I was lucky to have high-achieving peers, with whom I frequently peer marks, both giving and receiving feedback, honing my abilities to critically view student essays from the lens of the criteria to make minute adjustments that make up the difference between a band 5 and a band 6.

Now that I’ve completed my HSC, I am left with this skill set that is perfect for becoming a tutor, especially as I am holistically familiar with the syllabus through experience. Therefore, working as a tutor would allow me to share what I know with current students to help them achieve their goals.

About the lesson

Lessons catered to every student through information based on:

Curriculum: involves looking at the syllabus outcomes and past HSC papers and feedback to get the best idea of what an exemplary looks like as well as what most students need to improve upon

Past assessments + feedback: this gives me more personalized insight on the student's strengths and weaknesses, as well as an idea of their thought processes and style. This way I can tailor how I approach the subject in a way that is homogeneous with how they naturally interpret questions

Student input: This allows me to effectively focus on what the student most wants to achieve, giving them input into their learning experience. It also gives me insight into less measurable things such as confidence and organization strategies that play a role in how year 12 plays out. As there are many styles of organization, I can shuffle how I present information based on how it makes the most sense to the student, and additionally send material in a format that is easiest to digest.

Rough Schedule: Knowing their specific circumstance allows me to plan lessons and homework reasonably around their existing schedule. Allows me to avoid adding extra pressure on top of the busy year 12 schedule, while maximizing the help I am able to provide.
