I always stick to the syllabus, I believe working through examples and practise questions is the best way to learn techniques or become familiar with equations. I approach things head on, with emphasis on any particular topic the student is struggling with or wishes to do more work on. I am a firm believer that as the tutee, the student should be able to choose what they want to study - they know best!
