About Alejandro
I'm totally here to help get the job done while working with you in an entertaining/engaging, yet effective manner. I've tutored for 4+ years now and I've come to find techniques that won't make the sessions feel like they drag on. I've managed to tutor students from junior high to lower division college students. I also have even gone over concepts with things that people learned but wanted to touch up with for their own personal work.
I've had experience at various schools/universities--from UC Irvine, to a local Junior College, and I'm currently a student at SDSU, while I'll also be attending the Los Angeles College of Music in January of 2023. I can offer answers to the experiences of applying to and attending each school, so I feel like that's kind of cool.
I am also normal in the sense that I have hobbies, which include (but are not limited to): Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Muay Thai kickboxing, playing the piano and guitar, and reading. I also learn random things on a regular basis so, honestly, I'm generally down to talk about anything (although helping you with our study session goals will be our priority). I love the LA Chargers (and football in general).
I'm here to help, however, I can!

I like to have those I tutor come to understand the processes of conceptualization--as I believe an understanding of concepts creates a foundation for a student/individual to be able to not just memorize answers to problems (in this case, most likely prompts), but to know how the entire process works.
This is still relevant to the English Language in all forms of writing. I want students to question the purpose of their assignment and, hence, the objectives that they need to complete in order to complete that task successfully. For example, a student can write an essay for the purpose of an argument, which likewise leads students to question who their audience is for that particular essay. With that in mind, then we'd go over the tools that are best used to complete that argument effectively with a specialized audience in mind. I also specialize in most forms of creative writing--from narrative plots in short stories to evoking particular emotions in any poetic style of choice or how to include facts in an entertaining manner such as with creative non-fiction, etc.
My process also includes having students practice through assignments. The lessons vary based on every student's objective. For example, a student in their junior year in high school might be taking an AP English Literature course and they may need help working to write timed essays in an effective manner. In contrast, I may assist an entry level college student on how to convey the theme of Heart of Darkness in a poetic fashion, limited to the villanelle form. I'm also available as a tutor for grammar and for more formal and technical types of writing.
So, in short:
-I tutor English Language Composition and Literature with 4+ years of experience. I also have an emphasis on creative writing, but I am also very qualified and capable in the more technical aspects of writing (which is sometimes referred to as "Literature Theory").
-I like to define objectives for each student and to create customized plans for the individual's needs.
-I'll teach concepts and then the tools necessary to complete objectives in understanding those concepts.
-Practice is a part of the process, so individualized prompts are necessary. I'll teach, but practice is how you implement what you've learned! It'll be fun though--I promise.
-Anyways, if you are wondering if I can assist you with any particular need--just ask and we'll go over anything you'd like and to see if I'd be a good fit for you.
(On a side note: I also have 10+ years of academic singing under my belt and I'm going to be studying at the Los Angeles College of Music in January--my lessons are the techniques I've learned and, like above, I work with each individual differently).
Reach out at any moment to see what I can do for you!
