About Paul

I am a semi-retired teacher of science. I now do professional tutoring whilst fulfilling my public service obligations as a Town Councillor in Sidmouth, Devon. I love tutoring. Within an hour I love seeing new students realising that they can do it. When the penny drops, it all makes sense and it is a wonderful moment to witness. I am married with two children that have both gone to work at world-leading organisations. I have a dog called Pippin whose knowledge of Physics is improving significantly too.

About the lesson

I am able to help students of all abilities having had 40,000+ hours of teaching experience. I have been an OCR & AQA examiner. DBS checks available on request. I am a Town Councillor for Sidmouth Town Council! I have tutored students at comprehensive, grammar and public schools such as St Paul's, Cheltenham Ladies, Marlborough College & Colyton Grammar & international schools. I currently tutor 11 students. My daughter read medicine at New College University of Oxford, attained 12A* GCSE grades at the age of 15. My wife works for the Good Schools Guide. We are professional educators. Students make rapid progress through lessons tailored to their child's needs. Most students follow or hop between one of two approaches. Approach one - Active support - Review what has been covered at school. I cross-examine to make sure they understand through exam questions and address any misconceptions. I then show the student what is coming up next so they are ahead of the class and are more likely to be engaged in the lesson. Approach two - Gap Filling/intervention - your child identifies areas where they would like help. We read and discuss the topic with interactive demonstrations. We then assess understanding. With both techniques we make revision cards to cement learning and revisit these each session. Sessions are interactive and your child will be actively involved and make rapid progress. You decide what extra work should be set to cement learning. Your child will gain confidence and start to shine in lessons. I am always happy to speak to any parents about their child's progress.
