About Gregory
I am an artist and lecturer, currently studying for a PhD in Art History, examining the legacies of surrealism for current, experimental, approaches to drawing and mark making. It is practice based and multi-disciplinary, drawing from my previous studies in Modern European Philosophy, Psychoanalytic Theory and Fine Art. My teaching experience includes over 8 years delivering seminars and workshops at different universities and art schools in England, and is based on these subjects, taken independently and/or in combination.

I am an artist, theorist, and associate lecturer on the MRes Art: Theory and Philosophy pathway at Central Saint Martins School of Art. Outside of these commitments, I am studying for an AHRC funded PhD in Art History at the University of Manchester, entitled "Drawing from Experience: Graphic Experimentation in the Light of the Surrealist Image". Through employing philosophical and psychoanalytical concepts in the study of drawing, this project aims to develop a theory of practice encompassing both traditional and avant-garde approaches to mark making.
I have nearly 10 years experience teaching in Higher Education, and many more in other contexts. My approach is to work chronologically through the key texts that make up an author's oeuvre. Unpacking these in an historically informed context, I aim to disclose the fundamental questions and problems with which the author was concerned, and how these have shaped broader disciplinary concerns; whether in art, philosophy or psychoanalytic theory. Whilst I have a good knowledge of my subject areas when taken independently of one another, my interests are multi-disciplinary, examining the way, for instance, that philosophy has informed psychoanalysis and vice versa, and my particular interest is with the way that theories and practices hang together.
If you are an artist, wanting to incorporate theoretical ideas into your practice/ an analyst, seeking a broader contextual grounding of your practice/ a philosopher seeking a nonconceptual practice that is nonetheless informed by philosophical thinking, we can work out a specific programme by which these things can be addressed. Alternatively, if you are a student in any of these subjects taken independently of each other, we can work out a programme to help you get the most from your studies.
