About Phoebe
"Piano became my primary language because I wanted to understand how accompaniment and melody fit together. My degree is an MM in Vocal Pedagogy from Manhattan School of Music, though I have spent 10 years teaching piano to 421 students. I find that pianists who learn to sing phrase their music like vocalists, which creates a much more musical result. It is a two-way street that improves your touch and tone.
I have worked with 421 students, including working professionals and intermediate learners. My teaching style is warm and patient, focusing on the mechanics of posture and hand position. I make sure that you feel comfortable behind the keys before we tackle complex classical repertoire. You will find that our sessions are focused on your individual progress."

"Real musicianship is not found in playing fast, but in knowing exactly when to stay quiet. Silence is the most important part of any piece, even if it feels counterintuitive to beginners. With 10 years of experience, I emphasize dynamics, expression, and pedalling technique for all grade exam candidates. I start with a diagnostic playing assessment before we set a learning plan to ensure your path is clear.
We will work through jazz improvisation, sight playing, and sight transposition as needed. My goal is to help you play with total confidence."
