About Maddie

I taught for 4 years in a mainstream secondary school where I taught AQA GCSE Geography and Edexcel A Level Geography. For both subjects I had a good track record of students achieving well in both courses I was very proud of what they managed to achieve. I am currently teaching in a selective secondary school where I teach AQA GCSE Geography and AQA A Level Environmental Science. I am the lead teacher for Environmental Science and have watched my students grow in their confidence and ability in the subject this year. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and find it to be a rewarding career where I am able to help students achieve and open doors to their futures. I believe that students who are motivated by a goal are most likely to succeed as they are more likely to be focused and dedicated in their studies. I enjoy delving into learning pedagogy and finding new ways to engage students in my classroom.
I have a PGCE with QTS from Sheffield Hallam University (2019) and I am in my 5th year teaching. I have been teaching the AQA Environmental Science A Level since September 2023 and have become painfully aware of how little there is available in terms of resources for students to use outside the classroom.

About the lesson

I can focus your lessons on a particular section of the specification or a particular skill. I have worked through all aspects of the specification with my own classes and have tailored these to a multitude of abilities. Want to focus on essay technique or how to meet requirements for the higher bands in the 25 markers? Struggling with a certain topic? Want to go over aspects you may have not understood 100% before? Whatever it is you are thinking please get in touch. I can run sessions where we go through work you have completed for your classes and give you more individualised feedback or help you understand what a question is asking. I engage regularly with AQA sessions focusing on exam feedback and CPD for staff teaching the A Level Environmental Science spec so I am aware of what the exam board are looking for and constantly developing my own skills and knowledge through CPD. My sessions focus on applying knowledge you have already covered or revisiting chucks of the spec, with a strong focus on exam technique.
