About Yamin
Hello! I’m Yamin Rahman, a passionate and friendly anthropology tutor with an MA in Public Issues Anthropology from the University of Guelph. I’ve spent the past few years teaching and mentoring undergraduate students as a Graduate Teaching Assistant, helping them build confidence in everything from understanding complex theories to writing strong academic essays. Anthropology is a powerful lens through which we can better understand ourselves, others, and the world around us—and I love helping students discover that for themselves. Whether you're new to the subject or looking to deepen your knowledge, I’m here to support you every step of the way with patience, encouragement, and clear explanations. I specialize in cultural and social anthropology, ethnographic methods, and academic writing, and I tailor each session to your goals and learning style. My goal is to make our sessions engaging, meaningful, and empowering. Let’s explore the world of anthropology together—feel free to reach out with any questions or to book a session!

As a recent MA graduate in Anthropology from the University of Guelph and a former Graduate Teaching Assistant, my approach to tutoring is grounded in clarity, engagement, and critical thinking. I believe that learning anthropology should be both intellectually stimulating and personally meaningful. My teaching methodology is student-centered—I tailor lessons based on your goals, learning style, and academic level.
Teaching Methodology & Techniques:
I combine interactive discussion, real-world examples, and structured content delivery to make complex anthropological theories accessible and engaging. I encourage questions and critical reflection, and I often use case studies, current events, and comparative examples to bring the material to life. I also guide students through academic writing, essay structuring, citation practices, and exam preparation.
A Typical Lesson Plan:
A typical session begins with a short check-in and review of previous material, followed by a focused deep-dive into a topic (e.g., kinship systems, postcolonial theory, ethnographic methods). We’ll explore key readings or concepts, work through questions or assignments together, and end with a summary and next steps. I often share additional resources tailored to the student’s interests or course requirements.
What Sets Me Apart:
What sets me apart is my ability to make anthropological theory approachable while also encouraging deeper analytical engagement. Having taught undergraduate students in tutorial settings, I understand the challenges learners face in grasping abstract concepts and articulating their ideas. I bring both academic experience and a supportive, approachable presence to every session.
Who the Lessons Are For:
My lessons are ideal for undergraduate students, high school learners curious about anthropology, and adult learners exploring social sciences. Whether you're writing your first anthropology paper, preparing for university exams, or looking to expand your critical understanding of culture and society, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward with confidence.
