About Caitlin

I have recently completed my Master’s degree in Psychology at the University of St Andrews and am due to formally graduate in December. Psychology has been a genuine passion of mine throughout my education, and I love sharing that enthusiasm and knowledge with others. I achieved the top grade in Fife for Psychology in 2019 and have since continued to study the subject at undergraduate and postgraduate level, specialising in evolutionary and developmental psychology.

Throughout my studies, I have always been drawn to teaching and supporting others, whether helping classmates understand difficult concepts, refine essays, prepare for exams, or find study techniques that make challenging topics finally “click”. I particularly enjoy breaking down complex psychological ideas into clear, accessible explanations and helping students develop a genuine understanding rather than simply memorising information.

My academic experience covers a wide range of Psychology, including research methods, statistics, academic writing, critical evaluation of research, evolutionary and developmental psychology, cognition, and animal behaviour. I can also provide support with Psychology statistics and data analysis, from understanding statistical concepts and choosing appropriate tests through to interpreting results and understanding how they are reported.

I also have hands-on research experience, including conducting empirical behavioural experiments with capuchin monkeys, as well as completing my own postgraduate research project. I enjoy bringing this practical perspective into teaching and showing how the concepts studied in Psychology connect to real research.

I approach tutoring with patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism, adapting my teaching to the student’s level, goals, and preferred way of learning. My aim is not simply to help students achieve better grades, but to help them become confident, independent learners who genuinely understand the Psychology they are studying.

About the lesson

My approach to Psychology tutoring is patient, structured, and fully tailored to each student. I start by understanding their current level, what they want to achieve, and which areas they find most challenging. From there, I build lessons around clear explanations, discussion, guided practice, active recall, and exam or university-style questions depending on the student’s needs.

Lessons typically last around an hour, although this can be adjusted to suit your preference. We can use this time to introduce or revisit topics, work through difficult theories or studies, practise applying psychological concepts, or develop confidence with essays and exam questions.

I can support students with understanding psychological theories and research, identifying gaps in knowledge, essay planning and structure, critical evaluation, revision strategies, and exam technique. For university students, I can also provide support with academic literature, research methods, statistics and data analysis, including understanding statistical concepts, selecting appropriate analyses, interpreting results, and presenting findings clearly.

My teaching is available across a range of levels. I can support students from GCSE, National 5 and Higher through undergraduate Psychology, with more advanced undergraduate support available in areas including comparative psychology and statistics. I am also happy to tailor sessions around a particular module, assignment, exam, or area of Psychology that a student would like to strengthen.

Whether you are encountering Psychology for the first time, preparing for an important exam, or tackling more advanced university-level material, my aim is to make the subject clearer, more manageable, and genuinely interesting while helping you develop the skills to work independently.

For high school level: £20/h, with a £5 travel charge for in-person.
For university: £25/h, +£5 travel charge for in-person.

The travel charge applies to those living locally, however depending on my current circumstances would be willing to discuss travelling further distances for an amended extra charge.
