I am studying for a degree in English Literature at St Andrews University. I have mentored students as part of the University scheme for a year, as well as being a student mentor at my Sixth form for two years.

I like to gauge what the student is looking for and then tailor my classes for them. Usually I will start by going over some basic definitions which will be relevant for their essay writing/ studies of a book and then I will go on to look at specific instances of analysis with them. After this I usually give them a title of an essay that is relevant to their studies and will work through planning this with them, looking at creativity as well as essay structure. I then set them to task of writing this essay up for me to look at in the next meeting.
